This chapter outlines how all the previous skills described and learnt in the book may be brought together to focus on a Masters dissertation. This includes the parts of a research proposal, working titles and the scope and goals of the project. It discusses the elements of a good literature review – using either chronological or thematic approaches – and how to discuss methodology and research design. The need for careful planning and timing, keeping a record of references and moving smoothly from introduction to results referring to an essay template that shows this sequence clearly. Finally it discusses what end matter might be required and the need to reflect on successful completion of the MA and what students have learnt can be taken forward.
